The Book.

Published in May 2018 to coincide with the sale of Andy Warhol’s Most Wanted Men No. 11, John Joseph H., Jr. - 1964 at Christie’s New York, this bespoke publication draws influence from pulp fiction and true crime novels. Teasing out the controversy and shock the series received when it was first unveiled at the 1964 World’s Fair in Queens, New York, this lurid title is meant to evoke the archetypal novel that any New Yorker could be seen combing through on their evening commute.
Complete with four original texts, Most Wanted Man follows Warhol’s most contended series from its execution, to its controversial unveiling in New York, and its 1967 European debut at Galerie Sonnabend in Paris. Most Wanted Man further examines the mug shot in art history, and includes a reproduction of the original NYPD 13 Most Wanted Men brochure, where Andy Warhol drew his source imagery.

“Nowadays if you’re a crook you’re still considered up there. You can write books, go on TV, give interviews—you’re a big celebrity and nobody even looks down on you because you’re a crook. You’re still really up there. This is because more than anything people just want to become stars”

— Andy Warhol
